Consultants from Dixon Hughes Goodman supported the system’s decision to find a new partner, telling the system’s leaders, “Even with operational and strategic improvements, the economic viability of University Hospital is questionable at best,” according to the report.
University Hospital had planned to merge with Jewish Hospital & St. Mary’s HealthCare and St. Joseph Hospital in a three-way deal earlier this year. However, Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear rejected University Hospital’s participation over concerns the publicly funded system would be privatized and operated under Catholic directives.
University Hospital is expected to select a new partner in June.
