Ms. Steckel will start work at the Department of Health and Hospitals on Nov. 15 at a salary of $148,500. She has served as Alabama’s Medicaid Commissioner since Dec. 2003 and also serves as president of the National Medicaid Directors Association.
Ms. Steckel was appointed by Gov. Bob Riley to replace a deputy chief of staff job, which has not been filled since other DHH staff reallocations following the departure of DHH secretary Alan Levine.
