Long Island College Pays Malpractice Claims as Part of SUNY Medical Merger

An unpublicized element of the Brooklyn, N.Y.-based Long Island College Hospital and SUNY Downstate Medical Center merger included a payout plan for malpractice claims, according to a New York Daily News report.

There are 180 malpractice claims, 60 of which are lawsuits, over allegedly improper care that occurred at LICH in the eight years before its merger.

A Brooklyn Supreme Court Judge issued an order last month making the payout plan official.
