Long Island College Hospital to Merge With SUNY Downstate Medical Center

Continuum Health Partners, which operates Long Island College Hospital in Cobble Hill, N.Y., has approved an agreement that would allow the hospital to merge with SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Crown Heights, N.Y., according to a report by the Brooklyn Paper.

The financially troubled hospital is approximately $170 million in debt and recently laid off 300 employees, according to the report.

Additional details of the agreement have not been released.

The hospitals must now await state approval for the merger.
