Both entities have signed a non-binding letter of intent and the university board has authorized the negotiation of a definitive agreement, according to the report. A final agreement could come within weeks.
But for now, terms of the proposed deal remain confidential until the transaction is approved by Lancaster General and UPHS, Lancaster General spokesman John Lines told LNP.
The update comes about four months after Lancaster General and UPHS signed a memorandum of understanding to explore ways to integrate the two systems beyond the strategic alliance they entered into in 2014.
Thomas E. Beeman, president and CEO of Lancaster General, said in October 2014 that Lancaster General would “continue to explore further integration in specialties such as oncology, trauma, cardiovascular care, genetics, neurosciences and other areas, including graduate medical education.”
