Kansas hospital exploring deal with Stormont as financial woes mount

Topeka, Kan.-based Stormont Vail Health may partner with the financially struggling Geary Community Hospital after the system's letter of intent was accepted by the hospital and Geary County Commission, WIBW reported April 19.

Stormont submitted the nonbinding letter of intent April 15. If the deal closes, Geary County would own the building and lease it to Stormont.

"Our intent is that we, together, will create a healthcare system that delivers high-quality care close to home and is financially sustaining," Robert Kenagy, MD, president and CEO of Stormont, told WIBW. "Together we support a regional effort that will not only enhance healthcare access and delivery but strengthen our region’s economic vitality and quality of life."

The hospital closed its six-bed intensive care unit in January amid financial issues, according to WIBW.
