Buffalo, N.Y.-based Kaleida Health has become the sole member and passive parent of Dunkirk, N.Y.-based Brooks-TLC Hospital and Springville, N.Y.-based Bertrand Chaffee Hospital, aligning the two facilities with Kaleida’s system.
Under the passive parent model, the two hospitals will maintain control and oversight of their daily finances, operations and services. Kaleida will provide administrative and financial guidance, help guide policy and strategic direction, and support key service lines, according to an Aug. 3 news release shared with Becker’s.
Bertrand Chaffee Hospital and Brooks-TLC Hospital’s board of directors will comprise Kaleida’s COO Kelly Corbi, CFO Hugh Chisholm and executive vice president of strategy and partnerships Matthew Drake. The outgoing board of directors will transition from their positions under the integration process.
On May 30, Brooks-TLC Hospital transitioned to Epic and also adopted Infor for finance, supply chain and human resources. Bertrand Chaffee Hospital also plans to transition to Epic and Infor.
Erie County Medical Center Corp., which works closely with Kaleida Health, will work with Bertrand Chaffee, Brooks-TLC and the future Northern Chautauqua Hospital to offer care coordination of its centers of behavioral health and transplantation, along with adult level-1 trauma care.
Northern Chautauqua Hospital will replace the existing Brooks-TLC Hospital and is currently under construction, the release said. The $233 million hospital in Fredonia, N.Y., will be a 133,000-square foot, one-story facility built on a 30-acre site. It will comprise 15 medical surgical beds, a 16-bay emergency department, five observation beds, operating and procedure rooms, imaging services, a helipad and primary and specialty care clinics.
The Bertrand Chaffee Hospital is also getting $17.6 million in renovations, including enhancements to its emergency department.
“The alignment with Kaleida Health is a strategic and proactive initiative that continues our efforts to secure and enhance healthcare for Chautauqua County residents well into the future,” Ken Morris, president of Brooks-TLC Hospital, said in the release.
