Mercer County Hospital in Aledo, Ill., reached an agreement with its county government and Quad Cities-based Genesis Health System in 2009. The facility has reported a nearly $1.2 million turnaround this year, in stark contrast to last years’ $700,000 loss.
Jackson County Regional Health Center in Maquoketa, Iowa, settled a three-year management agreement with Genesis Health on July 1, and affiliations date back to the 1990s.
The Quad Cities’ Trinity Regional Health System affiliated with Unity Healthcare of Muscatine, Iowa, in July 2009, extending a 2008 management agreement.
Independent hospitals do remain throughout the Quad Cities, but they are few and farther between. The economy and convenience of location are driving forces behind the growing shifts in the healthcare community and Quad Cities’ officials are keeping pace with the industry’s transformational changes.
