Illinois health system strikes deal to add 5th hospital

Decatur (Ill.) Memorial Hospital has entered into an agreement to join Memorial Health System, a four-hospital system based in Springfield, Ill.

Under the agreement, which requires regulatory approval, 300-bed Decatur Memorial Hospital would be part of Memorial Health System but maintain a local executive team and board of directors.

"This affiliation with Decatur Memorial Hospital and the physicians who serve those communities is a significant milestone in our efforts to increase access to healthcare across central Illinois," Memorial Health System President and CEO Ed Curtis said in a press release. "With the addition of Decatur Memorial Hospital, we are able to do more for our region."

The transaction is expected to close Oct. 1, 2019. Once the deal is complete, Memorial Health System will include five hospitals and have more than 10,000 employees and medical staff.
