Under the agreement, the two hospitals will form to join Western Connecticut Healthcare, and Danbury Hospital CEO John Murphy, MD, will serve as CEO of the new health system. Each hospital and the umbrella organization will have its own board of directors, but all three boards will include the same 18 members, according to the report.
The deal will give patients at 85-bed Milford access to a wider range of services and specialists available at Danbury.
The two hospitals have been in negotiations for more than a year.
