The Community Medical Center is a division of Hill County Memorial that provides care primarily to low-income and uninsured patients. The hand-off to Frontera is in response to alternations in federal fund allocations for hospitals that see these populations.
Frontera will take control of the Community Health Center Aug. 1 and will re-open the facility to patients Aug. 26. Community Health Center will continue to serve the same patients but will have access to alternate sources of federal funds, according to the report.
The change is expected to increase access to service for Fredericksburg and the surrounding communities.
