Norman King, head of Charlton Healthcare Corp., purchased the 25-bed critical access hospital last week, according to the report. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Lower Oconee Community Hospital is the first hospital CHC has acquired.
Mr. King, who said he is a former associate administrator of Lower Oconee Community Hospital, told WMAZ all services are back, but staff will likely be reduced from 120 to about 80.
The hospital closed in mid-February due to low volumes and rising expenses. It had been the fourth rural hospital in Georgia to close in the past year-plus.
