Nashville, Tenn.-based HCA Healthcare has sold Dominion Hospital, a behavioral health facility in Falls Church, Va., to Woodmere, N.Y.-based Hill Valley Healthcare for $25 million. The company approached HCA as part of its interest in making additional investments in Virginia, an HCA spokesperson told Becker’s.
“We were encouraged by its enthusiasm for supporting Dominion Hospital and the surrounding community,” the spokesperson said. “HCA Healthcare made this decision with thoughtful consideration and after carefully evaluating how to best meet our patients’ and communities’ long-term healthcare needs.”
Dominion Hospital is a freestanding behavioral health hospital serving children, adolescents and adults. It offers inpatient and outpatient services, including programs focused on eating disorders and trauma.
The sale marks a deeper expansion into behavioral health for Hill Valley Healthcare, which has historically focused on skilled nursing, rehabilitation and senior living. Earlier this year, it purchased two New York skilled nursing facilities for $82.4 million. It now owns more than 40 facilities across six states.
HCA will retain a significant behavioral health presence in Virginia following the sale. HCA Virginia operates 430 inpatient behavioral health beds and 19 outpatient programs statewide, according to the health system. That includes 17 behavioral health beds at StoneSprings Hospital Center in Dulles, Va.
