Nashville, Tenn.-based HCA Healthcare has closed its sale of 31 home health and hospice agencies across eight states to Cincinnati-based Deaconess Associations, according to an Oct. 1 Deaconess news release shared with Becker’s.

With the deal complete, the agencies and their employees join Central Pyramid, one of Deaconess’ four owned subsidiaries. Central Pyramid has nearly four decades of experience in home health and hospice care.

The acquisition expands Central Pyramid’s geographic reach and fits Deaconess’ strategy of investing in organizations that complement its existing operations and expand access to care, according to the release.

“This acquisition expands our ability to provide high-quality care in the home while bringing together teams that share a commitment to compassionate service and strong local relationships,” Deaconess CEO Trey Crabb said in the release.

The companies announced the deal in June. Terms were not disclosed. The sale comes as health systems rethink their home-based care strategies.
