Hartford HealthCare considers closing hospital campus

Local residents and town council members spoke out against Hartford (Conn.) HealthCare's plans to potentially close The Hospital of Central Connecticut's Bradley Memorial Campus in Southington, Conn., according to myrecordjournal.com.

Here are four things to know:

1. The Southington Town Council was scheduled to vote on a resolution concerning the future of Bradley Memorial Campus Aug. 28. As of the report's publication, the council had not voted on the resolution.

2. Before the council meeting, residents, council members and representatives from Hartford HealthCare attended a public hearing to express their concerns on the hospital campus' fate. Some residents spoke out against Hartford Healthcare's intentions and past decisions concerning the facility, and suggested offering Yale New Haven (Conn.) Hospital the opportunity to take over the campus, the report states.

3. Hartford HealthCare stated it is considering all options, including closing the campus and replacing it with another medical facility.

4. During the public hearing, Gary Havican, senior vice president of Hartford HealthCare and central region president, urged councilors to delay voting on the resolution until hospital officials discuss their plan for the facility with council members. He said while he acknowledges a decision on the campus must be made soon, he urged councilors to wait until the end of September, when hospital officials expect to receive recommendations for the hospital campus from the health system.
