The following healthcare mergers, acquisitions, partnerships and general transactions took place or were announced during the week of Aug. 20:
1. HCA, Ochsner pull the plug on partnership talks with Louisiana hospital
New Orleans-based Ochsner Health System has ended partnership talks with Metairie, La.-based East Jefferson General Hospital less than two weeks after Nashville, Tenn.-based HCA Healthcare dropped out of the running to partner with the hospital.
2. 3 groups reportedly vying for shuttered Ohio hospital
At least three organizations have submitted or will submit their plans to the Massillon, Ohio, city council to take over Massillon-based Affinity Medical Center, which closed earlier this year.
3. UMMC withdraws offer to affiliate with 208-bed hospital
The Jackson-based University of Mississippi Medical Center rescinded its offer to affiliate with the financially struggling Greenwood (Miss.) Leflore Hospital.
4. Sanford Health, Good Samaritan Society expedite merger
Sanford Health and Evangelical Lutheran Good Samaritan Society, both based in Sioux Falls, S.D., will merge their organizations earlier than anticipated after receiving quick approval from regulators.
5. Tenet exits UK market after 3 years
Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare announced on Aug. 20 it has completed the sale of London-based Aspen Healthcare to NMC Healthcare, which is based in the United Arab Emirates.
