N.J. Supreme Court Allows Reopening of Pascack Valley Hospital to Move Forward

The New Jersey Supreme Court has refused to hear an appeal by Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, N.J., and Englewood (N.J.) Hospital and Medical Center to halt Hackensack (N.J.) University Medical Center’s plans to reopen Pascack Valley Hospital in Westwood, N.J., according to a Record report.

HUMC applied to reopen Pascack in June. The 128-bed hospital closed in Nov. 2007 due to bankruptcy.

Valley Hospital and Englewood Hospital appealed a lower court’s denial to halt the reopening. The two competing hospitals claim the new facility is unnecessary.

HUMC’s certificate of need application will now be considered by the state’s Department of Health.

HUMC hopes to reopen the hospital in late 2012, according to the report.
