Goodall Hospital Joins MaineHealth System

Henrietta D. Goodall Hospital (commonly referred to as Goodall Hospital) in Sanford, Maine, received approval from HHS Commissioner Mary Mayhew to join MaineHealth System in Portland, according to a Morning Sentinel report.

The approval was the last step in the regulatory process for the deal.

In 2009, Goodall Hospital and MaineHealth attempted to merge, but the deal was called off following the Federal Trade Commissions' request for additional information. The two organizations had hoped the merger would be approved quickly.

According to the report, Goodall Hospital's board of trustees analyzed options for the hospital's future and concluded that MaineHealth would be the best strategic partner. In January, the two organizations submitted (pdf) a new letter of intent to HHS.

Goodall Hospital and its primary and specialty care physician groups, assisted living facilities and outpatient services in Sanford, Kennebunk and Waterboro, Maine will join MaineHealth, which includes 11 other hospitals.
