German hospital network adds 43 Spanish hospitals in $6.42B takeover

Bad Homburg, Germany-based Fresenius SE, Europe’s largest publicly traded healthcare provider, has purchased Spain’s largest private hospital operator, IDC Salud Holding, for $6.42 billion, reports Bloomberg.

IDC Salud operates 43 hospitals, 39 outpatient centers and 300 occupational risk prevention centers in Spain, according to The New York Times. Healthcare companies will continue to operate under the Healios brand in Germany and the Quirónsalud brand in Spain after the transaction takes effect.

The transaction is subject to regulatory approval and is expected to close by the first quarter of 2017.
