Sandusky, Ohio-based Firelands Health is now the sole owner of The Bellevue (Ohio) Hospital.

Firelands Health completed its acquisition of the hospital in May after a bankruptcy court approved Bellevue’s Chapter 11 reorganization plan and member substitution agreement, according to a May 17 news release.

As the sole owner of the 50-bed hospital, Firelands Health has pledged capital improvements to maintain services and sustain and expand other points of access for Bellevue and the surrounding communities, according to the release.

Bellevue filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in February, citing many of the challenges currently facing rural and independent hospitals, including rising operational costs, access to capital, regulatory complexity and funding constraints.

“Firelands presented itself as the best fit, as they share our mission to ensure access to excellent care and can help us offer our patients a broader range of services,” Bellevue President and CEO Sara Brokaw, RN, MSN, said in the release. “We deeply appreciate the continued support of our patients, staff and community as we navigate this path to a brighter future.”
