The deal has been in the works since August 2014, when the two organizations signed a letter of intent to begin discussions about forming a closer relationship.

Now that the deal has received approval from the Maine Department of Health and Human Services, the transaction is expected to close in October, according to the report.

Once the deal is closed, Maine Coast Memorial Hospital will become Eastern Maine Healthcare Systems’ ninth hospital.
