Addressing a meeting of the Nashville Health Care Council, Mr. Kemp said LifePoint was among his favorite stock picks due to its recent acquisition of Gallatin-Tenn.-based Sumner Regional Health System and more stable same-store sales.

“Most competitors underestimated what [LifePoint] can do this year,” said Mr. Kemp.

Mr. Kemp recommends hospital chains seek out opportunities to acquire smaller, weaker hospitals that could benefit from improved commercial payment rates, according to the report.
