DeKalb Medical Center seeks partner

Decatur, Ga.-based DeKalb Medical Center will look to align with local and out-of-state health systems in the approaching months, Georgia Health News reports.

The medical center has experienced leadership changes, job cuts and financial woes in recent months. DeKalb's CFO resigned in May and left his position in August. The medical center's COO resigned in November, and its CEO departed in December. The medical center also issued plans to lay off about 60 people and eliminate 80 vacant positions.

Cheryl Iverson, vice president of marketing and strategic planning at DeKalb Medical, said DeKalb's financial issues are partly a result of treating a large number of uninsured patients, according to the report. Financial hardship has influenced several Georgia hospitals to partner or merge to help them endure healthcare payment changes.
