The government accused the hospital of over billing Medicare for infusion therapy, chemotherapy administration and blood transfusion services. Medicare only allows hospitals to bill for one infusion or chemotherapy service per patient visit and one blood transfusion unit per day. Specifically, the hospital was accused of billing the healthcare program for up to eight units per visit or day, according to the report.
The hospital’s recent settlement resolves the allegations without admitting liability. The hospital’s CEO called the improper billing an “honest mistake,” according to the report.
