The definitive agreement for the $260 million transaction was first announced in November, according to a March 3 Community Health Systems news release.
The 254-bed Port Charlotte hospital has been renamed AdventHealth Port Charlotte, according to a March 3 AdventHealth news release shared with Becker’s. Adam Johnson has been named president and CEO of AdventHealth Port Charlotte, which includes an off-site emergency room.
The 208-bed ShorePoint Health-Punta Gorda sustained irreparable damage during Hurricanes Helene and Milton in fall 2024, indefinitely suspending inpatient operations. John Wright, marketing director of Port Charlotte, Fla.-based ShorePoint Health, confirmed to Becker’s in December that it would not reopen.
AdventHealth has not confirmed if the system will repair structural damages and resume hospital operations.
“AdventHealth plans to work with the Punta Gorda community to assess its needs and determine the best way to care for its residents,” the AdventHealth release said.
