The sale would include Mercy Hospital along with Mercy Special Care Hospital in Nanticoke, Pa., Mercy Tyler Hospital in Tunkhannock, Pa., and numerous outpatient centers.
The decision to sell was based on lower than average reimbursements for care and a static population base, which led to empty hospital beds and duplication of services, said Kevin Cook, Mercy Health Partners president and CEO, in the release.
A sale is anticipated by the end of 2010.
