The health systems will enter a due diligence period in which they will share information on how merging could be helpful. J. Dennis Murray, MD, chairman of the Laurel Health System board, said in the report that the health system needs to evaluate the benefits of joining forces with larger entity in order to “enhance quality and expand access to care during a time filled with tremendous challenges in healthcare.”
According to the report, officials said this exploratory phase could last three to six months.
