Newark, Del.-based ChristianaCare is set to acquire five Upland, Pa.-based Crozer Health outpatient locations in Pennsylvania for $50.3 million after Crozer shared plans to shut down and lay off employees in late April.
Crozer closed its Ridley Park, Pa.-based Taylor Hospital on April 26 and its Crozer-Chester Medical Center in Upland on May 2. The closure of the two hospitals and associated facilities resulted in 2,651 layoffs.
The outpatient locations being acquired by ChristianaCare include two facilities in Glen Mills, one in Havertown, one in Broomall and one in Media, Pa. They will complete ChristianaCare’s new campuses and neighborhood hospitals being built in southeastern Pennsylvania to help expand the system’s care network, according to a May 28 news release.
ChristianaCare is opening a West Grove, Pa.-based neighborhood hospital this summer and another in Aston, Pa., in 2026, the release said.
“Crozer Health’s parent company [Los Angeles-based Prospect Medical Holdings] filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in January,” the release said. “As one of Crozer-Chester Medical Center’s closest neighbors, ChristianaCare has been engaged with Pennsylvania state and county officials and health care partners throughout the region in planning for the health care needs of the Delaware County community.”
The sale of the five outpatient locations is expected to close “in the near future,” and is dependent on court approval. ChristianaCare is assessing the services and programs that the outpatient centers provide to decide which will be continued, grown or restarted.
