The affiliation builds on a long-term collaboration between the two organizations, according to a news release. Under the agreement, Carson Tahoe Health will be able to improve patient access to high-risk medical specialty treatment including advanced cancer care, transplant services, neurological care, clinical trials and complex cardiovascular care.

“Complex neurological care is a great example of where we have a growing need to serve our community with enhanced services,” said Richard Rodriguez, MD, chief medical officer of Carson Tahoe Health, in the release. “This partnership will provide greater access to the University’s Neurosciences Center and give our patients the ability to participate in leading-edge treatments only available through larger academic centers.”

The affiliation doesn’t change ownership, local control or governance, according to the release. It also won’t restrict patient choice in providers.
