Cardinal Health to acquire heart-product business

Cardinal Health has agreed to purchase Johnson & Johnson’s heart-product business, Cordis, according to a news article.

Cardinal Health will put up a cool $1.49 billion to purchase Cordis from Johnson & Johnson. Cordis focuses on creating medical devices, specifically stents and catheters.

With the addition of Cordis, Cardinal Health increases its inventory of products for sale to hospitals, ASCs and physicians.

Don Casey, head of Cardinal’s medical segment stated,”As we bring more of these strategies to bear, that’s going to make us increasingly important to hospitals.

The deal is expected to close close to the end of the year.
