Tenet Healthcare Corp. announced it would not renew its lease of the Irvine hospital last July, and although Newport Beach-based Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian picked up the lease and publicized extensive renovation plans for the building, the hospital won’t reopen until 2010 or 2011, according to the report.
This leaves Irvine residents without a community hospital for one to two years.
For the last few months, the hospital has provided workshops to its employees on how to improve their portfolios, find work and file for unemployment, according to the Orange County Register. Twenty-four individuals have transferred to other Tenet hospitals and others have applied to open positions at Hoag.
When the new hospital opens, it will be an extension of Hoag’s Newport Beach campus and will specialize in orthopedics and sports medicine.
