The board of directors approved the transaction on Sept. 13. Brookhaven CEO Rich Marguilis signed the contract the following day.

The two facilities have been in talks to affiliate since Sept. 2015. In May, the medical center offered $15 million for the former nursing home, which shuttered its doors in June 2013.

Mr. Marguilis said the medical center hopes to start construction on the space by mid-2017, according to the article.
