Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston has taken the 81-bed Milton (Mass.) Hospital under its umbrella, according to a BIDC news release.
The hospital will be renamed Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Milton to reflect the new relationship. The agreement, which will enhance existing clinical affiliations, went into effect Jan. 1.
Under the arrangement, patients with complex medical needs will have “smooth access” to services offered at BIDMC, which is located roughly 10 miles away. The two hospitals will also share an electronic medical record.
The deal reflects a formalized collaborative relationship — not an acquisition. Daily operations will be locally driven at each hospital, and Milton will retain its separate license, board, independent medical staff and senior leadership.
