Bert Fish Medical Center attracts 3 possible partners

Daytona Beach, Fla.-based Halifax Health Medical Center, Florida Hospital in Tampa, and Parrish Medical Center in Titusville, Fla., have submitted proposals to partner with Bert Fish Medical Center in New Smyrna Beach, Fla., according to The Daytona Beach News-Journal.

In August 2013, Naples, Fla.-based Health Management Associates signed a letter of intent to enter into a long-term lease with Bert Fish. However, Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems subsequently acquired HMA and called off the planned acquisition.

After the acquisition was called off, Bert Fish once again began seeking partners, and the systems that have submitted proposals in this round have done so for a variety of reasons. For example, Florida Hospital already has five medical centers in the state and seeks to expand into New Smyrna Beach to have a larger geographic footprint, according to the report.

The hospitals have also pledged to help Bert Fish in different ways. Over the next five years, 678-bed Halifax Health has promised to cut Bert Fish's tax revenue for indigent care in half.

All three proposals to partner with Bert Fish will likely be available to the public sometime over the next seven days, according to the report.
