Anne Arundel to control Doctors Community under proposed merger

Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis, Md., will get full control of Doctors Community Health System, a single-hospital system based in Lanham, Md., under a proposed merger, according to state documents reviewed by the Capital Gazette.

Documents list the proposed regional health system's placeholder name as Greater Maryland Health System. The system will get its official name later this summer, Anne Arundel spokesperson Arminta Plater told the Gazette.

Through the transaction, which requires regulatory approval, Anne Arundel would invest up to $138 million over five years into Doctors Community's campus and its IT infrastructure. The funds would also be used to expand inpatient and outpatient care.

Anne Arundel and Doctors Community announced the merger May 13. The deal is set to close July 1.
