Albemarle Board Votes for Sentara to Operate Hospital

Albemarle Hospital in Elizabeth City, N.C., has signed a letter of intent with Norfolk, Va.-based Sentara Healthcare, according to a report fromThe Virginian-Pilot.

The Albemarle Health Board of Commissioners voted to enter into the first stage of the process toward having Sentara operate the hospital, although a financial agreement has not yet been formed, according to the report.

Greenville, N.C.-based Vidant Health has managed Albemarle for more than a decade. However, the agreement with Vidant expired in 2012, and the hospital opened a bid process to explore other options, according to the report.
