AHA to Congress: Hands Off Non-Profit Tax Exemptions

Hospitals have provided more than $367 billion in uncompensated care since 2000 and contribute greatly to the economic benefit of their communities, the AHA said in a statement before Congress.

The AHA concluded that reimbursement reductions, population health initiatives and shrinking access to capital make it imperative that Congress preserve current exemptions for non-profit hospitals as they work to reform the tax code.
