In late September, Abington and Jefferson announced they would enter into a 30-day exploratory period. The board members and executive teams from both organizations have now decided to move forward with the transaction.

Abington and Jefferson expect to enter into a definitive agreement in 120 days and finalize the transaction later in 2015.

“The merger of Abington and Jefferson is a bold step forward for patient care, wellness, and educating future healthcare providers,” said Laurence Merlis, president and CEO of Abington.
