2 Ohio systems back out of merger talks

River Valley Health Partners in East Liverpool, Ohio, and Cincinnati-based Mercy Health have withdrawn the letter of intent to merge the two systems signed in late 2014.

"In 2013 we set out to find a partner for our health system and community, as the merger process progressed with Mercy Health the decision was made that we may need to move in a different direction," said Pete Wick, chairman of the board of trustees for RVHP.

Although RVHP has ended merger discussions with Mercy Health, it is still looking to partner with another system. "We will evaluate the different partnership opportunities available to us and set a course that is best for our staff, community and the patients we serve," said Ken Cochran, president and CEO of RVHP.
