Saginaw, Mich.-based Covenant HealthCare and Marlette, Mich.-based Aspire Rural Health System signed a letter of intent Jan. 22 to explore a partnership that would enhance healthcare services in Michigan’s Thumb region.
The nonbinding agreement would begin a formal exploration process between the systems, which have collaborated through the Covenant Regional Thumb Network since 2018, according to a Jan. 22 news release.
The proposed partnership would expand specialty care access in cardiology and oncology, pool clinical and operational resources, and help address typical rural healthcare challenges across Michigan’s Huron, Lapeer, Sanilac, Tuscola and surrounding counties.
“The LOI is non-binding and outlines a structured process for further evaluation, including clinical, financial, operational and regulatory considerations,” the release said. “Both organizations will remain independent throughout this process. Any future agreement would require approval from each organization’s board, regulatory review, and community input.”
