2 Kentucky hospitals sign acquisition agreement

Danville, Ky.-based Ephraim McDowell Health revealed plans to acquire Harrodsburg, Ky.-based James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital, The Advocate-Messenger reports.

Sally Davenport, RN, president and CEO of Ephraim McDowell, told The Advocate-Messenger there are no plans to close James B. Haggin Memorial. Instead, it will become the third hospital in Ephraim McDowell's portfolio.

"It's a move … that will make us have greater ability to serve those who are in Mercer County because we'll be working together. We will not be in competition," Ms. Davenport said. "The people who work for Haggin are good people, strong and capable and skilled. And I know that they will bring much to [Ephraim McDowell], and I'm looking forward to working with them."

Ms. Davenport also said there are no plans in place to eliminate any services, nor are there any plans to lay off employees, the report states.

Officials expect to finalize the deal by Dec. 1.
