California Attorney General Kamala D. Harris conditionally approved a transaction allowing Ontario, Calif.-based Prime Healthcare Services to acquire six hospitals from Los Altos, Calif.-based Daughters of Charity Health System.
4. Partners HealthCare abandons deal to acquire South Shore Hospital
Boston-based Partners HealthCare backed out of a deal to acquire South Shore Hospital in Weymouth, Mass.
5. St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center signs preliminary agreement with unnamed health system
Syracuse, N.Y.-based St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center signed a non-binding preliminary agreement to join a large unnamed nonprofit health system.
6. UPMC, Jameson Health approve definitive merger agreement
The boards of directors of Jameson Health System, based in New Castle, Pa., and Pittsburgh-based UPMC formally approved a definitive agreement to merge Jameson Health into the UPMC network.
7. Prime Healthcare finalizes purchase of 2 Missouri hospitals
Ontario, Calif.-based Prime Healthcare Services completed its acquisition of 310-bed St. JosephMedicalCenter in Kansas City, Mo., and 146-bed St. Mary’s Medical Center in Blue Springs, Mo.
8. Alexian Brothers Health System, Adventist Midwest Health form third-largest system in Illinois
Hinsdale, Ill.-based Adventist Midwest Health and Arlington Heights, Ill.-based Alexian Brothers Health System finalized their agreement to form an integrated healthcare system.
9. Tuomey, Palmetto Health looking at partnership
Sumter, S.C.-based Tuomey Healthcare System is in merger talks with Palmetto Health, a health system based in Columbia, S.C.
10. Emory, WellStar in discussions to create new health system
Atlanta-based Emory University, which owns Emory Healthcare, and Marietta, Ga.-based WellStar Health System, the largest nonprofit system in Georgia, are discussing the prospect of joining forces to create a new health system.
11. Tenet says hospital takeover talks in Connecticut are over
Tenet Healthcare, a for-profit hospital operator based in Dallas, and Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy announced Tenet was backing out of a deal to purchase five hospitals in the state.
12. North Shore-LIJ, Maimonides Medical Center exploring partnership
North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System, a 19-hosptial system based in Manhasset, N.Y., and Maimonides Medical Center, a tertiary care teaching hospital in Brooklyn, N.Y., signed a memorandum of understanding to engage in exclusive partnership negotiations.
13. Carson Health joins Sparrow Health Systems
Carson Health in Carson City, Mo., which includes a 61-bed acute-care hospital and 16 physician practices, joined Lansing, Mich.-based Sparrow Health Systems.
14. CHS divests Arkansas hospital
Subsidiaries of Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems sold Harris Hospital in Newport, Ark., to White County Medical Center of Searcy, Ark.
15. LifePoint Hospitals completes acquisition of Nason Hospital
Brentwood, Tenn.-based for-profit LifePoint Hospitals completed its acquisition of NasonHospital, a 44-bed community hospital in Roaring Spring, Pa.
