1. West Penn Allegheny Calls Off Highmark Merger
Pittsburgh-based West Penn Allegheny Health System canceled its $475 million merger with insurer Highmark, claiming the payor breached the affiliation agreement.

2. Mission Health, Highlands-Cashiers Hospital Pursue Affiliation
Highlands-Cashiers Hospital in Highlands, N.C., decided to pursue an affiliation with Asheville, N.C.-based Mission Health.  

3. Tenet Healthcare Explores Affiliation With Emanuel Medical Center in California

Emanuel Medical Center in Turlock, Calif., conducts exclusive negotiations with Tenet Healthcare Corp. for a possible collaboration.

4. Ashland Community Hospital’s Board Approves Affiliation With Dignity Health
Ashland (Ore.) Community Hospital’s board of directors voted to approve the hospital’s affiliation with Dignity Health in San Francisco.  

5. Steward Health Care Terminates Acquisition of Landmark Medical Center in Rhode Island

Boston-based Steward Health Care System terminated its agreement to acquire Landmark Medical Center in Woonsocket, R.I.

6. UNC Health Care to Manage High Point Regional Health System

High Point (N.C.) Regional Health System and University of North Carolina Health Care in Chapel Hill agreed to form a strategic partnership following unanimous approval by both organizations.

7. Greenville Hospital, Laurens County Health Care Discuss Affiliation

Laurens County (S.C.) Health Care System’s board of trustees voted to enter into exclusive affiliation negotiations with Greenville (S.C.) Hospital System.  

8. Huntsville Hospital to Manage Lawrence Medical Center in Alabama
Huntsville (Ala.) Hospital and Lawrence Medical Center in Moulton, Ala., signed off on a management agreement.  

9. Valley General Hospital in Washington Ratifies Partnership With EvergreenHealth
Valley General Hospital in Monroe, Wash., approved a “business partnership” with EvergreenHealth, based in Kirkland, Wash.  

10. Capella Healthcare and Mercy Health to Join Hospitals in Arkansas

Franklin, Tenn.-based Capella Healthcare and Mercy Health in Oklahoma City signed an asset purchase agreement to merge two hospitals in Hot Springs, Ark.  

11. Prime Healthcare Services Acquires Dallas Medical Center
Ontario, Calif.-based Prime Healthcare Services purchased Dallas Medical Center.

12. Laurel Health Joins Susquehanna Health
Wellsboro, Pa.-based Laurel Health System’s integration into Susquehanna Health System in Williamsport, Pa., became effective Sept. 1 after receiving regulatory approval.
