Revenue cycle leaders are raising concerns about Elevance Health’s new site-of-care billing requirements, and some patients are taking insurance denials straight to payer CEOs. Here are 10 revenue cycle updates that Becker’s reported in October:

1. Forty percent of providers surveyed said 10% or more of their claims are denied, essentially flat from 41% in 2025 but up from 31% in 2022, according to an Oct. 28 report from Experian Health.

2. Xsolis, which develops AI-driven technology for mid-revenue cycle management, named former R1 RCM CEO Lee Rivas as chief executive.

3. An Oct. 26 report from Cedar and the Health Management Academy found patient responsibility is rising fastest on larger hospital balances, even as many health systems remain better equipped to help uninsured patients than insured patients facing thousands of dollars in deductibles and coinsurance.

4. Four revenue cycle leaders shared with Becker’s what their teams stopped doing and what changed as a result.

5. Hospitals and health systems considering consolidating revenue cycle management vendors should prioritize cash flow protection, transition costs and operational continuity rather than assuming fewer vendors will lead to savings, according to an October 2026 Black Book Research report.

6. As Elevance Health prepares to implement new site-of-care billing requirements, revenue cycle leaders are raising concerns about additional administrative burdens, potential payment delays and growing complexity across payers.

7. Some patients are bringing insurance coverage disputes directly to health insurer CEOs, seeking another avenue for review when recommended care is denied.

8. Arlington-based Texas Health Resources is shifting its revenue cycle team away from working insurance denials one at a time and toward identifying large-scale payer patterns it can resolve in bulk.

9. Payers will soon have to strip so-called “ghost rates” from their price files and have a senior executive attest that the data is accurate and complete, a requirement hospitals already face, under a final rule CMS and the Labor and Treasury departments issued Oct. 5.

10. Revenue cycle management company Knowtion Health named former HCA Healthcare executive Steven Huddleston as CEO.
