Publisher’s Letter: February 2015

February Issue. The February issue of Becker’s Hospital Review has a special focus on compensation. How much physicians and executives are paid is a nuanced topic. I hope the data-driven lists in this issue provide clarity and serve as a valuable resource for compensation matters at your organization.

Perhaps this is the year to simplify your organization’s strategy by embracing the concepts that have proven themselves to work. The cover story “Healthcare Strategy 2015 — Back to Basics: 12 Key Thoughts” encourages leaders to refamiliarize themselves with the ins and outs of their business, recruit and retain the top talent, test new initiatives and not rely on one solution to succeed. The issue also contains a thought-provoking feature story that questions the nationwide physician shortage — a phenomenon that has engulfed the healthcare world for years but is becoming less accepted. The issue also contains a CFO roundtable, commentary on what makes for a sensible executive compensation package, a feature story on the lessons we’ve learned from various health IT investments so far and a column about election season in the C-suite.

6th Annual Meeting and CIO Summit. Becker’s Hospital Review is hosting its 2015 Annual Meeting in Chicago, May 7-9. More than 150 hospital and health system executives are speaking at the event, which will feature more than 100 sessions on hospital and health system strategy, finance, leadership, physician alignment, the patient experience, health IT and much more. Keynote speakers include Joel Allison, CEO of Baylor Health Care System and Baylor Scott & White Health, Kevin Lofton, CEO of Catholic Health Initiatives, and Nancy Schlichting, CEO of Henry Ford Health System, among many other bright minds and talented leaders. The meeting will be held at the Swissôtel in Chicago, just off Michigan Avenue.

Also, please join us for the Becker’s Chief Information Officer and Health IT Summit July 2021 at the Ritz-Carlton Chicago. We are thrilled to have more than 50 outstanding hospital and health system IT executives discuss the role of the CIO, social media, data analytics, mHealth and EMR issues. We will conclude the day with one terrific CIO panel and then have a cocktail reception with networking. Network with hospital executives as our speakers discuss their biggest concerns and how they are addressing them.
