UT Southwestern Medical School taps new dean: 4 takeaways

Dallas-based UT Southwestern Medical School appointed W. P. Andrew Lee, MD, executive vice president for academic affairs, provost and dean, effective Feb. 4.

Here are four takeaways:

1. Dr. Lee is currently director of the department of plastic and reconstructive surgery at Baltimore-based Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.

2. Previously he served as chief of the plastic surgery division in the department of surgery at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.

3. He has authored 210-plus peer-reviewed publications as well as 40 textbook chapters, and co-edited the book Transplantation of Composite Tissue Allografts. He has served as principal investigator on federal research grants totaling over $10 million.

4. He has served as chair of the American Board of Plastic Surgery and president of the American Society for Reconstructive Transplantation. He is currently president-elect of the American Association for Hand Surgery.
