LSU Health Shreveport med school CMO returns to institution after arrest

A Louisiana State University Shreveport spokesperson confirmed a medical school professor has returned to staff after being arrested on obscenity charges in August, according to KTBS-3 News.

Here are five things to know:

1. Kevin Sittig, MD, is a professor of surgery at LSU Health Sciences Center, director of the regional burn center, and the senior associate dean and CMO for LSU Health Sciences Center-Shreveport School of Medicine.

2. Police arrested Dr. Sittig, 61, in August on charges of obscenity after he reportedly propositioned an undercover police officer and exposed himself.

3. Police referred Dr. Sittig to the district attorney's pretrial diversion program, which serves as an alternative to traditional prosecution in court and is commonly used in obscenity cases, according to the report. Defendants sent to such programs are required to pay a fee, undergo counseling, submit to substance abuse testing and perform community service. The charges are dismissed after one year if the individual does not have any additional altercations with police.

4. An official with the district attorney's office said Dr. Sittig has completed all conditions relating to the pretrial diversion program, and his attorney told KTBS-3 News Dr. Sittig has returned to work at LSU Health Shreveport.

An LSU Health Shreveport spokesperson also confirmed Dr. Sittig's return to the institution to the television station, according to the report.
