UT Health Sciences Center Launches Emergency Medicine Residency Program

The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio has started an emergency medicine residency program, according to a San Antonio Express-News report.

The new program was started earlier this summer to help combat the state's physician shortage, as many physicians choose to practice close to where they complete their residencies, according to the report.

UT Health Science Center received close to 1,000 applications for the program's first year, according to the report. More than half of residents in the first class are minorities.
