The program pays physicians who agree to practice for four years in a primary care physician shortage area up to $160,000 to repay their medical school loans, according to the report.
The legislature approved a budget of $33.8 million for the program, up from just $5.7 million in 2012-2013. Officials hope to have 100 physicians in the program by Aug. 31, the deadline to apply, according to the report.
