Since water completely washed over the bridge, Maggie McNeill, a labor and delivery nurse, called her father to pick her up from the highway above the cliff and began climbing. Once Ms. McNeill made it to the top, her father drove her the rest of the way to the hospital.
Ms. McNeill said that regardless of the storm, patients needed her help delivering babies.
“It’s my passion,” Ms. McNeill said. “I have always said if I can’t be at home with my kids full time that I’m very thankful to have a job here to help other mamas become mamas.”
Ashe Memorial Hospital’s CEO Laura Lambeth told WTVD she was not surprised of Ms. McNeill’s commitment.
“[She] is just awesome. I am not surprised of her dedication and going the extra mile for her patients. She does it every day,” Ms. Lambeth said.
